Paths: Canada and Australia vs. The Monarchy - Greg
Barns, National Chairman of the Australian Republican Movement
from 2000 to 2002 and National Campaign Director of the 1999
referendum for an Australian head of state will be addressing
members and supporters of CCR at an informal evening dinner and
reception at Urban Restaurant in downtown Toronto. Greg will be
discussing Australia’s republican movement, its future and
parallels with the Canadian republican movement. Those
wishing to attend must reserve a seat in advance by contacting

Victoria
Day - Commemoration of 1837 Rebellion - May 19
Members and
supporters are invited to a one hour ceremony to commemorate the
republicans of the 1837 Patriot's Rebellion. Although the revolt
failed to obtain a Canadian republic, it was instrumental in the
North American British colonies obtaining democratic reforms.
Attendees of the Victoria Day event will provide readings and
music suitable to the occasion. In attendance will be organizer
Charles Roach, a Toronto Lawyer and activist as well as National
Director of CCR, Tom Freda. The
time is 10am, Monday, May 19 and the location is the statue of
William Lyon Mackenzie behind Queen's Park at Wellesley Street.
Parking is available on the street and at U of T west of Queen's
Park.

Speaker - Member of Parliament, John Bryden - Friday, March 28.
Guest speaker
will be John Bryden,
member of parliament for Ancaster-Dundas- Flamborough-Aldershot.
He'll be discussing his ongoing efforts to have the Citizenship
Oath revised to have allegiance to the
Queen deleted - as Australia has already done.
Also planning to
attend will be Mario Silva, an independant Vancouver filmaker
who's doing a documentary on the monarchy in Canada.
The time is 6pm
and the location is 688 Richmond Street West, Suite 405.
