(Victoria Day Weekend) -
Toronto, ON - This year, the Toronto Chapter of Citizens for a
Canadian Republic marks the May Two-Four Weekend with a special
speaking engagement featuring the legendary Canadian journalist
Allan Fotheringham.
Fotheringham is
well-known for his 27 years as Maclean's Magazine back-page
columnist, 10 years as a regular panelist on the CBC Television
program Front Page Challenge, and lately, his column in the
Globe and Mail newspaper. However, if that's not enough, he's
also a long-time, outspoken republican who's eager to help the
cause by participating in this evening of wit and enlightenment.
The 2½ hour event, beginning at 7 pm, will be highlighted by Mr.
Fotheringham's account of his years as a correspondent in
Britain covering, among other things, their Royal family. Of
course, he'll also be offering his views on the British monarchy
and why it's time for Canada to grow up and cut the apron
strings from the institution.
Date and Time: Friday, May 16. 7-9:30 pm.
Admission:
Free (donations accepted).
Location:
The historic 1848 Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, 106 Trinity Street,
Toronto, King and Parliament Distillery District (Trinity
Streetcar stop)
